One warm summer day I went down to the sea
Where two little fishes came swimming with me.
The sun glistened bright on their silvery scales
As they darted about with their lemony tails.
I wondered if mere curiosity
Had bidden the fish to come swimming with me,
And I watched as they playfully fluttered around
In the billowing sand from my feet on the ground.
Prone I would lie on the cool gentle swells
And feel the light stroke from their bright yellow tails.
Their black button eyes seemed to sparkle with light,
Their joie de vivre made me laugh with delight.
One warm summer day I went down to the sea,
To swim—all alone, I thought I would be.
Whoever would guess that my cohorts and friends
Would be bright silver fish with lemony fins?

Thank you! I’m told they were baby pompanos. 💕
